Frames by Numbers

Frames by Numbers, a re-imagined paint-by-numbers with a beautiful frame and unique designs. As the visual designer, I started researching, trending designs: what people find relaxing, enjoyable, and what color pallets are users drawn to. I converted complex drawing to simplified, clean vector designs with legible sized number for a stress free painting experience.
Design Process & Tools: Research, Procreate Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop.

4 unique designs: Succulent, Friendly pups, Citrus, and Boho.

Here, you can see the first stages and some of the final stages of the process. I began with brainstorming a design on my iPad as well as experimenting with colors. Then we had to convert it into vectors and manually add each number and color to make sure they were legible and took as much space as needed. Once we were happy with the design we had to make sure the paints also translated well on canvas. It took some experimenting and a lot of swatching to get it right.

The Citrus design was one of our first designs. Here you can see me experimenting with paints. This was before we ordered any real material, we printed the design in house and mixed the colors inside these pods to really test and see what this frame-by-numbers project could really look like. You can also see a beautiful finished frame with the final colors.

The friendly dog frame; although it was one of the more challenging designs, it makes me smile the most. I wanted to be considerate with the dog breeds I incorporated as well as how can we have 14 dogs, and reuse the paints and still making sure they look distinct. It was also a challenge to design them in a way where you can still see their unique feature without making too many small areas that might of been trickier to paint and to read the numbers.

The boho design, a calming satisfying frame to paint. Although the design is more on the minimal side, it was tricky deciding the colors. Once we started noticing that we were using a lot of neutral colors we realized that we might be able to reuse the Dog Frame color palette. Reusing is always a win, so with a bit more thought on the color usage we were able to make one color palette work for two completely different designs!
